New gems open to our supporters on Patreon first, before everyone else. Joining takes a couple of minutes: become a member on Patreon, then link your Patreon account here so we know it is you.

Step by step

  1. Join on Patreon

    Open our page on Patreon (the button is also on your account page and under every locked gem). Choose a membership of at least $5 a month and press Join.

    Sign in to Patreon or create a free Patreon account, and enter your payment details. Patreon takes the payment; we never see your card.

  2. Link your account here

    Come back to Scientific Gems, sign in and open your account page. Under Membership, press Link my Patreon account.

  3. Allow access

    Patreon asks whether Scientific Gems may see your Patreon profile and membership. Press Allow. You return to your account page, and your membership shows as active. The locks on members' gems are gone.

Questions

I already support you on Patreon. What do I do?

Skip step 1: sign in here and link your Patreon account (steps 2 and 3).

My account page says "not a member of our campaign".

The Patreon account you linked has no membership with us. Perhaps you are signed in to Patreon with a different account from the one that pays. Sign in to Patreon with the right account and press Refresh from Patreon.

I joined, but the gems are still locked.

Press Refresh from Patreon on your account page: it reads your membership again straight away. Memberships below $5 a month don't open members' gems.

What happens if I cancel, or a payment fails?

You can cancel on Patreon at any time. When Patreon tells us the membership has ended or a payment was declined, members' gems lock again. Gems for everyone and your account stay as they are, and you can rejoin whenever you like.

What do you learn about me from Patreon?

Your Patreon user id, whether your membership with us is active, its monthly amount and the date of the last payment. We cannot see your card, charge you or post on Patreon as you. One Patreon account can be linked to one account here.
